The Ultrasound Technician (Diagnostic Medical Sonographer) is a Diagnostic Ultrasound Professional that is qualified by professional credentialing and academic and clinical experience to provide diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound and related diagnostic procedures. The scope of practice of the Ultrasound Technician includes those procedures, acts and processes permitted by law, for which the individual has received education and clinical experience, has demonstrated competency, and has
completed the appropriate ARDMS certification(s) which is the standard of practice in ultrasound.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
• Maintains awareness of all departmental and operational policies of NEC.
• Assists in the maintenance of all equipment in the department, including cleaning and QA procedures
• Explain the ultrasound procedure to patients and answer any questions they may have.
• Maintain ultrasound equipment and sterilize the room in which the procedure takes place.
• Spread the ultrasound gel on the surface of the patient’s body covering the internal area being imaged.
• Perform the ultrasound ensuring the transducer (probe) is capturing images of every angle/section that must be assessed.
• Evaluate the images for their quality, but also to interpret what was captured in the image.
• Present images and preliminary findings to physicians and the healthcare team.
• Maintain patient records and add medical notes related to the ultrasound procedure.
• Explain the ultrasound procedure to patients and answer any questions they may have.
• Maintain ultrasound equipment and sterilize the room in which the procedure takes place.
• Spread the ultrasound gel on the surface of the patient’s body covering the internal area being imaged.
• Perform the ultrasound ensuring the transducer (probe) is capturing images of every angle/section that must be assessed.
• Perform other duties as assigned

• Responsible for wearing ER identification at all times
• Attend all ER required meetings and in-service education
•Remain flexible in staffing patterns and resolution of staffing conflicts; participates in temporary assignments
• Compliance with attendance standards
• Demonstrate flexibility when changes in assignments are necessary

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
• Graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program or Cardiovascular Technology
Program that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education
Programs (CAAHEP) is required.
• At least 2 years of ultrasound/sonography experience
