This course prepares students for entry-level positions as nursing assistants/nurse aides who provide quality services for residents of long-term care facilities (LTCFs). Topics covered in this course include communication and interpersonal skills; infection control; safety and emergency procedures; promoting residents’ independence; respecting residents’ rights; basic nursing skills; personal care skills; mental health and social service needs; basic restorative services; residents’ rights; and other relevant topics.
Students learn basic patient care. Meets all training requirements to be eligible for State of Ohio Certification Exam. 100% attendance is mandatory. Two-step Mantoux TB test and physical must be completed prior to the first day of clinical. Students who pay in full before first day of class will receive their own teal uniform top. Travel required. Sixteen hours will be completed at a clinical location during the last week of the program.
Training will consist of at least 59 hours of classroom experience and skills training and at least 16 hours of supervised resident care in a long-term care facility (nursing home only). Upon successful completion of a NATCEP, students will receive an official ODH Certificate of Completion and will be eligible to register for the state nurse aide test. Individuals who pass the state nurse aide test will have their names added to the Ohio Nurse Aide Registry.
All students must obtain and pass a background check along with the physical and TB test.
