The Missouri Small Business and Technology Development Center (MO SBTDC), which is a partnership with the U.S. Small Business Administration, focuses on assisting small businesses in any stage of evolution with financial analysis, marketing strategies, management issues and technology access. Services are provided via individualized consultations with a business management counselor or through educational sessions on a wide variety of topics.
This position serves as a business management counselor for the Missouri Small Business and Technology Development Centers based in Columbia and serving central Missouri.
This is a 12-month academic position. Appointment may be made as non-tenure track ranked (NTT), depending on University approval of the academic credentials and qualifications of the successful candidate.

Provide individualized technical assistance for start-up and existing small businesses in central Missouri in the areas of finance, management and marketing. Conduct assessments of client needs, provide services and make referrals if necessary to other technical assistance providers.
Conduct educational offerings for owners and managers of small businesses in the areas of business start-up, business expansion, marketing, financial management and human resources. Offerings include those developed by the MO SBTDC as well as the Kauffman FastTrac curricula.
Support the MO SBTDC system through service on various ad hoc committees, task forces and teams engaged in product development planning or process implementation. Participate in regional planning efforts and assist in implementation of regional plan.
Actively network and promote the program to area lenders, economic developers and chamber through memberships, speaking engagements or collaboration on training events and other projects.
Maintain client files in a web-based management information system. Attend professional development sessions as needed. Maintain professional core competencies in business management subject matter.
Conduct all activities in accordance with the Civil Rights Acts, Title IX, Rehabilitation, Americans with Disabilities Act and local, state and region affirmative action plans.
As with all positions involvement with other duties and responsibilities will be expected to support the mission and purpose of MU Extension.
An earned master’s degree in business, business education, public administration or a related area with appropriate coursework is required.
Three to five years experience in business management, marketing, or finance.
ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Expertise in management, marketing, and finance are critical.
Ideal candidate will have:
• Experience in operating, managing, or owning a small business;
• Experience with conducting educational training courses and/or business consulting;
• Experience in social media;
• Some experience in international marketing;
• Professional and effective written and oral communication, organizational skills and interpersonal skills; and
• The ability to work effectively within a higher education environment, with the general public, with partner organizations, faculty, and diverse audiences.
