Position Summary: Medical Technologist II
Perform a wide range of medical laboratory procedures requiring technical knowledge and skill. Operates complicated laboratory analyzers to provide critical data for use in the treatment and diagnosis of disease. Make independent judgment decisions in the reporting of normal and abnormal test results. Perform and analyze quality control data. Evaluate/research new techniques and/or equipment. Instruct students and employees. Interact with nursing and health care practitioners. Provide excellent customer service.

REQUIRED Education: Bachelor's degree
Specific Course Work: Bachelor's degree with 36 semester hours in Biology, Chemistry and/or Clinical Lab Science.

Associate's degree with 36 semester hours in Biology, Chemistry and/or Clinical Lab Science and 5 years of experience in a clinical lab environment may be accepted in lieu of Bachelor's Degree.

Required Licensure/Certifications: Florida Technologist License in appropriate area(s).
Medical Technologist II: Must have passed one of the following National Certification exams: MT (ASCP), CLS (NCA), MT (AMT), MT (AAB),or BB (ASCP) upon hire or within 6 months of hire.
If they do not present documentation that the national exam has been passed at the end of 6 months, they will be moved to a Medical Technologist I position and the pay will be adjusted accordingly. MT Certification preferred. ABHI CHS/CHT a benefit.

- Must be able to pass a color vision test or functional color assessment test administered by Employee Health. Technologist must inform Laboratory Administration if vision capabilities change to the extent the technologist can no longer perform test(s) accurately in work area.
- Knowledge of laboratory techniques, tests and procedures.
- Ability to perform procedures requiring judgment with minimal supervision.
- Ability to recognize abnormal results or testing problems and discuss with Technologist II, Supervisor, Manager, Physician or Medical Director.
- Ability to solve problems. Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to recognize and effect repairs of malfunctioning equipment.
- Ability to provide instruction and communicate to medical, para-medical or lay individuals.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and organize workflow.
- Good decision-making skills. Detailed-oriented.
- Must be able to handle stressful situations in a professional manner.

REQUIRED Experience: One (1) year experience in a Medical Technology CAHEA approved program OR one (1) year working as a Technologist in a hospital laboratory
