Touchette Regional Hospital is seeking a Certified HIS Coding Technician to join our team.
Education requirementsAssociates or Bachelors degree in Health Information Technology/Administration or equivalent, (RHIT/RHIA or RHIT/RHIA eligible or CCS-H).
Experience requirements• 1-2 years previous medical record coding, guidelines and billing experience.
• Will consider candidates in the final year of HIA/HIT programs, or CCS-H may be considered depending on applicant's experience level.
• Working knowledge of computer software (HIS, 3M Encoder/Grouper, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Microsoft Office and/or other applicable office system software.
Strong verbal, written communication skills and good organizational skills.
Ability to multitask and work independently.
Working knowledge of MS Word and Meditech.
ResponsibilitiesReviews medical records for the purpose of identifying data which will be used to assess patient care and determine reimbursement.
Abstracts, verifies and enters data into the automated database, assigns appropriate ICD-9-CM and CPT codes, verifies medical necessity, groups codes into DRG's /APC's, complies with respective payer guidelines for coding, supporting, documentation and grouping of data.
Performs charge capture and associated data entry, serves as liaison with other departments to resolve revenue cycle issues (Ex: Customer Service /Registration, Billing etc.)
Reports cases to Illinois State Cancer Registry (ISCR) and follows up as required.
Works with physicians to obtain clarifying documentation.
