The Southwest Center, located in southwest Jefferson County, provides supports to adults with developmental/intellectual disabilities in a variety of community-based services, each of which is geared towards helping our participants to live, work and enjoy life in his or her community. We are seeking applicants for a Direct Support Professional (DSP) to work in one of our residential homes to provide one-on-one care, safety, and supervision of an individual with developmental/intellectual disabilities.

Education requirementsHigh school or equivalent

Experience requirementsProviding direct care to persons with disabilities: 1 year

QualificationsMust be 18 years of age
Must have a high school diploma or its equivalent
Must complete all required training as outlined by DDID regulations, including first aid and CPR certification
Must be able to read, understand and implement written and oral instructions
Must pass criminal background check
Must pass pre-employment and random drug testing
Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record
Must have proof of auto insurance
We will only consider applicants that are experienced working with adults with developmental/intellectual disabilities

ResponsibilitiesWork in a home 1:1 caring for a person with intellectual/developmental disabilities
Must be caring, patient, and understand how to work with someone with IDD and dementia
Respects the confidentiality, dignity and rights of the individual cared for
Perform required documentation (progress notes) on a daily basis
Responsible for transporting individuals on occasion according to SWC policies
