Volunteers of America is in need of Assistant Store Managers. The Assistant Store Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management and overall performance of a medium thrift store (more than 500K annual sales). Duties include merchandising, sales, staffing, cash management and store maintenance. Direct or indirect supervision of all store employees (10 to 20 employees): Production Cashiers, Production Workers, Crew Leaders, and Maintenance staff.

Education requirements• High School graduate or equivalent

Experience requirements• Minimum six months experience in retail store operations
• Supervisory training or experience preferred

Qualifications• Must ensure a minimum of 1500 pieces of clothing and (1-2) skids of brick are placed on the sales floor daily (this minimum requirement is subject to change from time to time)
• Represents store at managers’ meetings
• Attend other meetings, conferences and seminars to stay abreast of new developments
• Ensure proper maintenance and cleanliness of the store including the sales floor and production room
• Enforce proper safety procedures are practiced

Responsibilities• Responsible for meeting projected store sales and ensures operational expenses are aligned with the budget figures
• Coordinates the daily production process
• Ensures essential work is completed in a timely manner
• Prepares weekly staff schedule, assigns work, makes appropriate changes, and reviews time cards for accuracy
• Ensures proper accounting for daily cash receipts
• Completes appropriate records and transmits to main office
• Prepares daily, weekly, and monthly reports of sales and related store activities
• Trains staff and ensures employees are thoroughly familiar with position duties including customer service policy
• Monitors employee performance and completes performance reviews in timely manner
• Make recommendations regarding promotions, wage increases, and counsels employees
• Ensures adequate staffing, interviews job applicants, and makes recommendations regarding employment
• Maintains inventory of supplies and places replacement orders as needed
